An age-old adage in motorsport says that a race is never won in the first corner, but it seemed that some of the competitors in this year’s Hankook 24H DUBAI must have missed that memo, such was the intensity of the action once the field was released after a pair of formation laps of the 5.390km long track. The Toksport WRT Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#777, Maro Engel / Luca Stolz / Philip Ellis / Patrick Assenheimer / Martin Konrad) started from pole position, but it was the Herberth Motorsport Porsche (#91, Sven Müller / Ralf Bohn / Robert Renauer / Alfred Renauer) that returned from the opening lap as the leader in the field.
Another Porsche, the 911 GT3 R of locally-based team GPX Racing (#24, Dirk Werner / Julien Andlauer / Stuart Hall / Jordan Grogor / Frédéric Fatien) was the first retirement of the race following a crash by Werner in traffic on lap four. The German escaped unscathed. That led to the first code-60 neutralisation of the race, of which there have been three so far. The others were caused by the fun-M Motorsport BMW M240i Racing Cup (#302, Vincent Piemonte / Oscar Jackson / Recep Sari / Eric Zimmermann / Gustavo Xavier) and the Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4 (#462, Adam Morgan / Katarina Kyvalova / Jake Giddings / Jack Butel / Jon Minshaw).
Four hours into the race, there have been twelve changes for the overall lead involving eight different cars. The car with the most laps in the lead so far, 40 of them, is the Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (#77, Adrian Amstutz / Patrick Kujala / Jordan Witt / Dennis Lind / Adam Balon). At the four-hour mark, the MS7 by WRT Audi R8 LMS (#7, Mohammed Saud Fahad Al Saud / Michael Vergers / Dries Vanthoor / Christopher Mies / Rik Breukers) is in the lead, one lap ahead of the Barwell Lamborghini. With the MP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#19, Daniël de Jong / Henk de Jong / Bert de Heus / Jaap van Lagen) in the GT3-Am class and the Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Hurcacán Super Trofeo (#710, Gregg Gorski / Gerhard Watzinger / JM Littman / Yury Wagner / Tom Dillmann) in GTX, both class pole-sitters are leading in these categories. The MRS GT-Racing Porsche (#989, Jukka Honkavuori / Gosia Rdest / John Hartshorne / Ollie Hancock) is on top in the 991 class while the Century Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 (#430, Angus Fender / Brett Strom / Ben Hurst / Daren Jorgensen / Nathan Freke) is first in the GT4 class.
TCE division pole-winners, the CWS Engineering Ginetta G55 (#278, Colin White / Bradley Scorer / Jean-François Brunot / Fraser Robertson / Adam Hatfield), initially led comfortably in the division, but then lost time due to repair works following on-track contact. After four hours, the best-placed TCR car, the AC Motorsport Audi (#188, Stéphane Perrin / Vincent Radermecker / Tom Boonen / Gilles Magnus / Matthew Taskinen), is also the TCE division leader. The CWS Engineering Ginetta G55 is still ahead in the TCX class. The TC class leader is the Team Avia Sorg Rennsport BMW M240i Racing Cup (#351, Skip Woody / Johan Schwartz / Benito Tagle / Mark Brummond).
